Billy Barnes is one of America's most widely-published photographers. His work has been published in books by more than 110 publishers and in more than 100 magazines including TIME, NEWSWEEK, FORTUNE, U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, THE NEW YORK TIMES, WOMAN'S DAY, USA TODAY WEEKEND, Delta Airlines' SKY MAGAZINE, BUSINESS WEEK, NATION'S BUSINESS, AMOCO ADVENTURE ROAD, AND WORKING WOMAN. He was also the photographer for the 2005 series “North Carolina Voices: Understanding Poverty”.
A portfolio of Barnes' documentary work is in the permanent collection of the U.S. Library of Congress and a much larger group of his copyrighted images is archived in the North Carolina Collection at Wilson Library on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
