Next Generation Radio - About
National Public Radio (NPR) and North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC are once again sponsoring a radio journalism-training project for college students in the central North Carolina area. The project is part of NPR's series of "Next Generation Radio" journalism training projects that are held across the country. We are looking for student journalists to serve as reporters for a five day intensive "boot-camp" May 12-16, 2008. Each participant will conceive, develop, report and produce stories for broadcast on NPR's next generation radio web site and WUNC's web site.
The competitively selected participants will work under the guidance of professional journalists from NPR and WUNC. Those selected must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, or have graduated from such a school within one year. They must also have no more than three years of journalism experience. That experience can come in the form of radio, television, print and online. In other words, you DO NOT need to have radio experience. The selected students must be at least 18 years of age.
Interested in applying? You must submit the following items NO LATER THAN April 16, 2008 in order to receive consideration:
- An updated resume complete with work history and all your contact information.
- A CD or tape of news, features, or interviews that exemplify your best work.
- If have a print background, please submit a portfolio of your best work.
- A brief one-page cover letter that includes a description of your interest in pursuing a career in journalism.
- Two written "story pitches" of ideas that you would like to report on. If selected, the story you work on will be done in Chapel Hill at WUNC's studios and will be between 4 to 5 minutes long.
- Please include a photocopy of your valid student ID.
