Next Generation Radio 2007
Next Generation Radio is a week-long student training project, designed to give students who are interested in radio and journalism the skills and opportunity to report and produce their own radio story. North Carolina Public Radio - WUNC and National Public Radio collaborated on the project May 14-18, 2007.
WUNC aired the students' stories on Monday July 9, 2007 at 10 PM. Download a mp3 copy of that program here.

Dave Nourse is a graduate student at NC State University pursuing a M.Ed. in counselor education. He has been involved in various aspects of the radio industry for several years and at one point was the general manager of WKNC-FM in Raleigh. The Next Generation Radio Project has allowed Dave the opportunity to delve simultaneously into newsgathering and public broadcasting, two critical aspects of the industry which he has yet to experience. When in need of escaping the radio station, Dave turns to cycling and lacrosse. He looks forward to more experiences in public broadcasting and thanks NPR and WUNC for this wonderful opportunity. |
Jung Eun Lee is a medical student at Duke University . She received her undergraduate degree from MIT with a double major in biology and Chemical Engineering. Eun's interest in journalism began in college, where she was an active member of her school newspaper, The Tech. She hopes to pursue a career in medical and science journalism. In the fall, Eun will be moving to Bethesda, MD to participate in the HHMI-NIH Research Fellows program for biomedical research. In her free time, Eun enjoys giving free (and often unsolicited) medical advice to family and friends, running 5K races, cooking, and drinking sugar free vanilla skim lattes. |
Meenakshi Chivukula says: "Back in high school my best friend and I were known for asking people to "tell me a story." And we listened to those agreed. In a way, the transition from listening to reporting sums up my four years as a liberal arts student at Duke University. I adore radio as a space of possibility, imagination, and accessibility. As a recent graduate, I hope that one day I can find my voice somewhere in radio." |
Jose Ho-Guanipa is a junior at Duke University studying psychology. Originally from San Diego, Jose plans on attending medical school upon graduation and enjoys filmmaking in his free time. After taking an introduction to audio documentary course at the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, he has decided to further pursue the craft of audio documentary production. |
Marie Lovejoy is currently pursuing a certificate in documentary studies at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, with emphasis on audio and photography. For years, she supported herself as a traveling artisan and actress and hopes to continue to travel, producing independent documentary work along the way. She is most interested in stories that are often not being told. |
