Economic Struggles in Siler City

Last month, the biggest poultry processing company in the country Pilgrim’s Pride shut down one of its plants here in North Carolina. Company officials say that’s because corn feed for poultry has become more expensive, as a result of worldwide demand for ethanol. The poultry plant was the second largest employer in Siler City, after a rival plant owned by Townsend Chicken. The closure is a big blow to this community of 5,800. Jessica Jones reports.
