Laura Bush will be in the western part of the state today. The First lady will visit the Carl Sandburg home in Flat Rock this afternoon. She's bringing a check for 50 thousand dollars from the National Park Foundation to support the site's Junior Ranger Program. Laura Bush is honorary chair of the foundation. National Parks spokesman Bill Reynolds says Mrs Bush will visit the house. She'll also stop in at the farm that was run by Carl Sandburg's wife, Lilian, who was a champion goat breeder.
"She’s actually going to have the opportunity to spend some time with the goats and we’re actually going to have children from the local boys and girls club that are here participating in the Junior Ranger program. So she’ll have the opportunity to interact … with both, both the human kids and the four legged kids"
Flat Rock was Sandburg's home from 1945 until his death in 1967. Attendance during Mrs Bush's visit is invitation only.
