1-866-OUR-VOTE is part of a nationwide non-partisan network aimed at ensuring fair access to the ballot box. In North Carolina, the calls go through the Center for Civil Rights at the UNC School of Law. Mark Dorosin is senior attorney there. He says volunteers will staff ten phone lines during the hours the polls are open. He's expecting a lot of calls.
"It's a combination of high turnout expected, and also what we know is that there's a large number of newly registered voters, people who will be voting for the first time. So that presents, I think, an additional set of questions and creates an additional need for information."
Dorosin says the hotline can help voters with everything from finding their polling places to problems with their registration or long lines at the polls.
