Sergeant David Williams was one of two North Carolina National Guardsmen killed when a bomb exploded next to their humvee North of Baghdad. He was 26 years old and a graduate of Tarboro High School. This was his second tour of duty in Iraq. National Guard spokesman Christopher Joyner says Williams told his family about the relationships he formed with people in Iraq.
"There was this one little girl he had met over there who was in the midst of this incredible turmoil and the resolution that this little girl had reminded him of why he was there."
Sergeant Thomas Ray was the other North Carolina guardsmen killed in the attack. He was buried yesterday in Black Mountain.
