The policy that addresses undocumented immigrant students and community college may change again. The state’s community college board is considering the possibility in a meeting today. Five times in eight years. That’s how often the community college system has changed its rules on admitting students who are here illegally. A sixth may come this week. But not without debate. It started yesterday when the full board discussed the issue. One of those who spoke up was Jee-nuh El Sadder. She’s the student representative on the Board and attends Rockingham community college. She says it shouldn’t matter how many undocumented students would be affected…
"Regardless if it’s 112 students or ten thousand students, if they have the desire to learn then they need the opportunity to get that education."
There are many on the board who don’t agree with El Sadder. One of them is gubernatorial candidate Beverly Perdue. She says the ban on admission should continue.
