A new school is opening in Durham this summer.
The Union Independent School was borne out of an after-school program designed to help mostly African-American children in north-east central Durham - one of the poorest parts of the city.
Some families have been waiting a long time for the school to open. Because of high interest, securing a spot in the school could only be accomplished by lottery.
