Kids with developmental delays often don’t get diagnosed until they’re into preschool or later. But an increasing amount of evidence indicates that finding these children earlier – as early as their first birthdays – is the key for better treatment.
A program piloted in North Carolina is doing just that. It’s called Assuring Better Child Health and Development, or ABCD. Thanks to ABCD, North Carolina screens children for developmental delays earlier and more frequently than any other state.
