Latinos are the fastest growing group of school age children in the country. But few of these students ever make it to college. In fact, about a third of them - - some reports say many more - - never finish high school. Reyes Ventura beat those odds. He was an honor roll student. Graduation last spring was a proud day for his family – they came to the United States from El Salvador when Reyes was a boy. But now that high school is done, Reyes is in the same situation as many of his peers – he can’t figure out a way to get to college. Paul Cuadros has his story for our series North Carolina Voices: Considering College.
Reporter Paul Cuadros has written a book about Reyes and his teammates from the championship Jordan-Matthews High School soccer team. More information about A Home on the Field.
