As of 6:20 tonight, the Senate is still going. The House has broken for dinner till 7:30. Speaker Hackney says there are 92 bills left to go tonight. Oh, and they'll be starting up again tomorrow morning at 8:30. Sigh.
Some of today's highlights:
House concurs on smoking ban. Also passes School Calendar Flexibility measure (H593), ditches high school graduation projects (H223), and narrowly approves changes to tort responsibility (H813) after a cranky hour-long debate. Still waiting for them to take up Racial Justice bill (H472).
Senate passes Racial Justice Act (S461) but only after amending it to speed up the state's resumption of executions. Also approves plastic bag ban (S1018) for Currituck, Dare, and Hyde, regulates transport of venomous snakes (S307), changes animal shelter laws (S467), lets mayors perform weddings (S992), and permits some warrantless searches as part of probation reform (S920).
More as I get it. Comments? Drop me a line.
