Wed.: Sick Day

The bad news is I’ve been holed up at home since yesterday with the flu. The good news is that my Cap Press Corps compatriots have not.
Gov. Bev Perdue spent her 62nd birthday in DC today, making NC’s case for a slice of the stimulus package. Greensboro’s Mark Binker has details (plus video, even!) on how the day went.
Over at Dome, Ryan Beckwith’s been running down campaign report totals for last fall’s contenders. Most interesting factoid: McCrory raised $6.4M in 2008, about one-third of Perdue’s $17.8M take, yet came in at 47% to Perdue's 50%. Yes, he lost, but I don’t think there’s much doubt McCrory way outperformed his money.
Obamiconography
You know that famous Shepard Fairey Obama poster? (Trust me, you do.) Now you can make your own. Little-known artsy mag Paste has a great online app that posterizes uploaded photos a la Fairey’s image. (That's Woody at right.)
A huge traffic surge crashed Paste’s site earlier this evening, but site admins say the servers should be back up by Thurs. morning. (H/T: Taegan Goddard.)
Idol Alert
Those of you too good to watch American Idol can skip this item. The rest of us cultural bottomfeeders have a new cause celebre: Anoop Desai, a cute, talented 21-yr-old Chapel Hill grad student who made it to Idol’s Hollywood cattle call. Go Anoop - we’re rooting for you! (But please reconsider the khaki shorts. We're begging here.)
