- Dan Gerlach
- Curtis Clark
- Ron Penny

BRAC Documents
- Future Projects Process - a Powerpoint on how the process is expected to work.
- The Budget Reform and Accountability Commission's public charter.
- And two sample Excel program inventories for the BRAC process: Wildlife and Commerce.
Knock, Knock...
NCGOP chairman Tom Fetzer can expect some company Thursday. About 16 to 20 Wake County senior citizens will meet at noon to ask him to back away from party strategies aimed at the elderly.
The contact for the event is Alliance for Retired Americans’ Jon Bray. When I asked him about the genesis of the event, he said it was spurred by Michael Steele’s Monday op-ed in the Washington Post, warning that the White House’s reform plan would lead to cuts to Medicare and rationing.
I asked Bray if this sort of thing had happened in other states yet. He didn’t think so, and he says it isn’t part of his group’s national strategy, either. It’s just some local folks who don’t like what they perceive as GOP scare tactics targeting senior citizens.
“Some of our retirees wanted to go out there and make sure the local GOP knew they didn’t appreciate the blatant lies about health care reform,” Bray says. “A few retirees will go in and submit a resolution asking the NCGOP to renounce the lies and denounce the scare tactics being used at the state and national level."
Bray isn’t sure yet whether Fetzer will be on hand to meet with the protestors.
Things that make you say “Hmmm...”
At 5:40 this afternoon, a press release from State Auditor Beth Wood sailed over the electronic transom, announcing a press conference Thursday morning at 10am. No topic was given. Generally speaking, this does not bode well: if an official has good news, they’re usually more than happy to talk about what they want to tell you. And they certainly don’t wait to miss the PM news deadlines to pass it on, either.
Here's what I'm thinking it might be about.
- Wood has been part of the federal investigation into former Governor Mike Easley. She inherited a probe into his wife’s job at NC State, but discontinued it shortly after assuming office -- a decision about which the grand jury's reportedly been very curious.
- The investment manager for the state treasurer resigned her highly-paid job yesterday with no notice and no explanation. If you’re a reporter, that’s pretty much guaranteed to make your ears perk up.
- It’s something we know nothing about -- yet.
I'm planning to attend. Follow my Twitter (above) for live updates, or come back for a recap here Thursday night.
