Wed. Late: Updates

First, a disclaimer: I’m pretty punchy from a two-day sleep deficit, due in part to this morning’s story about whether Obama can actually win NC. (A flat tire - mine, not Obama's - also factored into the late night. Tuesday was not a banner day for transportation in general.)
A little later, Frank Stasio and I dished about Obama, poll numbers, Southern Dems, and the governor's race on today’s The State of Things. If you missed it, it’s here.
Listen Now!
By the way, the best thing about the aborted bus trip was getting onto the list for all the campaign pool reports. (When the whole group of traveling reporters can’t be accommodated at an event, a couple of reporters go – usually one print and one TV – and then share their reporting with the others.) After a year and a half out on the trail, the Obama press crew has turned the humble pool report into a snarkadelic art form. It’s fabulous reading.
Uh-oh
The latest National Enquirer has new revelations about John Edwards’ affair, including an “exclusive” with Rielle Hunter and what appears to be a real, undoctored photo of the baby in question. According to the NE, arrangements were made to have Hunter flown out of the country the day before Edwards’ confession. It didn’t work, though; the NE reportedly found her hanging out with a trial lawyer in St Croix.
Slate’s Mickey Kaus admits he’s obsessed with the Edwards story. Commenters at HuffPo think Lee Stranahan is, too. Meantime, NYT’s Gail Collins and David Brooks still can’t agree on whether it’s a story at all. One hint for Brooks: “John Edwards” topped the NYT's own search list this Monday (via Deceiver).
Speaking of denial, WaPo’s Mary Ann Akers says John Edwards was still fishing for an invite to the convention as of last week.
I’m just gonna walk away from that one. If you must know more, it's here.
