Wed: Easley on deck

Former governor Mike Easley is expected to be called to testify around 9:30 this morning at the State Board of Elections hearings. If you've got access to TV (or reliable streaming), News14 is planning to carry it live. If not, you can follow me on Twitter, or for even more info, click here to search the #Easley tag. That'll let you see everyone who's live-tweeting today's hearings.
The real question, of course, is whether we'll have much to twitter about. Smart money says Easley, already under a grand jury investigation, will take the Fifth. But you never know: Easley's always had an independent streak.
Whatever happens, I'll be on WUNC's State of Things today to talk about the hearings so far. Tune in to 91.5 at 12:06.
Catching up
I wasn't able to be at the hearings yesterday, but you can catch up on the blow-by-blow at Mark Binker's blog -- he recorded a live stream of Tuesday's #Easley tweets. For a good overview of yesterday's campaign finance testimony, check out Dan Kane's excellent summary at the N&O.
What to watch for
Two key witnesses probably won't appear at all. Easley's 2004 campaign chief Jay Reiff has declined the Board's subpoena. (He's in Virginia, legally outside the board's subpoena authority.) And former Easley advisor Ruffin Poole successfully quashed his subpoena in a Wake County court. The Board appealed, but there's no news on that for now.
There's one central player here who hasn't yet said yes or no. That's Scott Falmlen, the former NC Dem party director. His name has come up more than once in this week's testimony. He has been subpoenaed, but if called to the stand, will he talk? Stay tuned.
