Tues: Off the Bus

We got as far as Sims in Wilson County when our convoy of three mini-vans pulled off into the parking lot of Sam's Convenient-Mart. Campaign staffers talked tensely on cell phones for five or ten minutes before calling the reporters together to tell us we were headed back to Raleigh.
Obama had planned to fly into Kinston (!) early this afternoon, catch a bus there, and make a couple of unannounced stops at undisclosed but "very Eastern NC" places on his way up to Raleigh for tonight's town hall meeting. But Tropical Storm Fay intervened. Obama's plane wasn't able to get out of Orlando in time to take the tour.
His campaign staff says they'll try it again soon. For us reporters, it's back to covering the town hall meeting. Dang. There is a silver lining, though: every electronic gizmo I own is fully charged up at the same time. That's got to be a first.
