In a rare show of budgetary bipartisanship, House lawmakers voted unanimously to increase the amount of Medicaid relief for counties from 60 million to 100 million.
50 m to divvy up among all 100 counties.
40 m for counties where Medicaid eligibility (poverty) exceeds 25%.
10 m to split up among counties on the edge - 20 to 25% eligibility.
So where's the extra money coming from?
Update:
Rules Chair Bill Owens says that Dan Blue's proposal yesterday to pay state employees more actually freed up 64 million dollars.
Here's how: The original raise proposal would have given most state workers a $400 one-time bonus. Blue's amendment gave a higher recurring raise, but no bonus. So the one-time cash set aside for the bonuses went back into the pot - and on into Medicaid.
So all appears to be well for pay raises AND Medicaid relief. Cross your fingers.
