Deaniacs Unite

The Screamin’ Demon is in town tomorrow.  DNC Chair Howard Dean is kicking off an abbreviated NC bus tour at the state Dem HQ in Raleigh Friday morning. His “Register for Change” tour is also scheduled for stops in Greensboro and Charlotte before moving on to GA Saturday.  More on that here.

The NCGOP is already weighing in on Dean's visit with this video .  Three guesses on the main theme.   (Clever enough, but it would have been way better as a mashup like the infamous (NSFW: obscenity warning) dance remix of Bill O’Reilly’s Inside Edition meltdown.  Think rhythm, people.)

By the way, NCGOP spokesman Brent Woodcox says RNC Chair Mike Duncan is expected to visit NC next month. Woodcox says fired-up NC Republicans are ready to show the nation “how it’s done.”  We’re watching.

Whatcha wanna know?

I’ve got ten minutes on the phone with Dean at 11am Friday.  If there’s anything in particular you think I ought to ask him, send me a heads-up.

Surprise. (Not.)

State Auditor Les Merritt announced today he’s investigating the $115M shortfall in the state health plan. Not that it’s outside his purview – it isn’t, of course – but it’s a little unusual for Merritt to preview an audit before it takes place.  Smell like election season to you? Yeah, me too.  Details here.

Careful what you wish for

State Elections director Gary Bartlett said yesterday his board wouldn’t have standing to investigate a political fee assessment by the NC Assn of Realtors unless someone filed an official complaint.  Wish granted: Raleigh Remax realtor Becky Harper filed one today.  Dome has the rest

Just for fun:

  • Milkbone pensionMarine icon Chesty retires after a contentious career. ("Sit?" You and what army?)
  • Speaking of dogs:  McCrory’s gubernatorial press kit includes a shot of the Charlotte Mayor hugging a radiantly happy Labrador Retriever. Why is this shot so popular?  If you have to ask, you probably don’t own a dog.  Great photo, BTW.  Maybe it’s time for Bev to roll out her own four-legged consultant.
  • The N&O’s Lorenzo Perez had an oddly compelling article on the folks who make a living repossessing cars.  Loved it.  Nice slideshow, too.
  • Rudy’s kid sues Duke over his constitutional right to play golf.  (That IS in the First Amendment.  Right?)

Don't let the golf-hatin' terrorists win.  Drop me a line.
