Mecklenberg Representative Becky Carney is at WakeMed this afternoon after experiencing what appeared to be cardiac arrest in her office at the legislature.  At about 4:00pm, just after Insurance Committee, Carney was on the phone with Rep. Verla Insko when she apparently fainted.  Her LA called for help, the Capitol NCGA Police came running, and Rep. Dr. Bobby England was called to assist.

Dr. England told reporters that Rep. Carney was unresponsive with no pulse when he arrived. He and an NCGA police officer performed CPR, then used one of the building’s automatic electronic defibrillators to successfully restart Carney’s heart.

Paramedics arrived and took over, taking Carney to WakeMed.  Dr. England says she was alert and talking as she was being loaded into the ambulance. So that’s good news.  Her LA Tazra  and other staffers are headed for WakeMed to wait for more news.  Please keep them all in your thoughts.
