Thurs: It's that time again...

As you’ve no doubt noticed if you’ve tuned in lately, it’s our February fund drive. And I’m more serious than ever when I ask you to please consider a contribution.
Our fund drive producers get the hives when we talk about the economy, but let’s face it: the elephant in the room is there whether you talk about it or not, and it’s hitting our station just like everyone else. A lot of our regular supporters may not be able to contribute as much (or at all) this time. So if you can help, please do – it’s more important than ever.
The tip jar’s here: please give what you can, and thanks very much.
Love is in the air
Who knew the state Senate was such a romantic place? Turns out Orange Dem Ellie Kinnaird isn’t the only one about to tie the knot. Robeson Dem David Weinstein, who lost his wife a few years back to cancer, has met a nice local girl (also widowed) and will be marrying her later this month, breaking the hearts of his many (!) admirers on Jones St. Congratulations, Senator!
Around the way
- Char-O’s Mark Johnson has a sweet profile of legislative veteran Penny Williams. Elections notwithstanding, I’m here to tell you it’s people like Penny who keep state government running.
- Greensboro’s Mark Binker tweets the battle over in-state tuition for scholarship athletes is back on.
- The life of former Insurance Commissioner Jim Long was celebrated today at Hayes Barton Church in Raleigh. As more than one lawmaker expressed to me, there’s a lot of folks people say they’ll miss, but in Jim Long’s case, they mean it. WRAL has video, and the AP’s Gary Robertson has a full wrap-up.
- Charlotte’s Rick Rothacker reports AG Roy Cooper is going after BOA for last-minute bonuses paid out to Merrill-Lynch execs.
