I won’t be able to blog later about John McCain’s speech tonight –I’m out at the Raleighwood Theater for a watch party with the Wake Co. Republicans. McCain doesn’t speak till after 10, so it’s gonna be a late night. Listen for my story on it in the morning. (Update: If you missed the story, it's here.)
Catching up:
A lot of folks loved VP pick Sarah Palin’s speech last night, including conservative pundit Bill Kristol, former Clinton advisor Howard Wolfson (via Politico), and CBS's Vaughn Ververs, who called it a “smash hit.”
Others were less enthused, most notably Palin's hometown paper, the Anchorage Daily News. And two fact-checks of the speech by CBS’s Hilzoy and the AP’s Jim Kuhnhenn found that many of Palin's best lines were…well, less than accurate, to put it gracefully.
Palin’s GOP allies say she’s been the victim of sexist reporting in the mainstream media. Politico’s Roger Simon strongly disagrees – and for the record, I completely agree with him. The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart had a stellar snarkfest on it, too. (Warning: slight profanity.)
Conservative pundit Peggy Noonan apologized in the WSJ this morning for yesterday’s unfortunate open-mic moment on MSNBC. She also tries – unsuccessfully - to explain her “it's over” comment. Hey, Peggy... stop digging. Really.
Comments? Drop me a line.
