Sunday Roundup: Stimulus Edition

Everyone’s doing the numbers this weekend on the imminent federal stimulus “rescue” package.
- The AP runs the numbers in general and for NC.
- Over at Dome, Ryan had early numbers from the FFIS, and I had the rundown from the Gov’s DC office.
- McClatchy’s Barb Barrett runs down the good news for greenies.
- Greensboro’s Mark Binker gets legislators’ reactions.
- WRAL’s Beau Minnick explains why Dem Congressman Bob Etheridge voted for it, while SoPines Pilot’s Florence Gilkeson explains why GOP Congressman Howard Coble voted against it.
Bob Etheridge is in town tomorrow to talk about his school construction loan provision. It’s not a grant – it’s a $25B bond fund, effectively interest-free for states because investors will receive returns as tax credits rather than interest payments. More here.
In non-stimulus news
- WRAL’s Stacy Davis wraps up Saturday’s HKonJ march.
- The N&O's Rob Christensen finds a political time capsule.
- Charlotte’s Jack Betts doesn’t think much of NC’s education bureaucracy.
- Asheville’s Jordan Schrader follows the debate over well testing in Western NC.
- Fay-O’s Paul Woolverton has a Q&A with text-hatin' Scotland Dem Garland Pierce.
- Binker runs down local reax to the proposal to revamp sex ed.
- The VA-Pilot’s Louis Hansen has the inside scoop on Blackwater’s rebranding as Xe.
- And NBC-17 talked to freshman Sen Don Davis (D-Wayne) about his proposal to ban puppy mills.
Thank you!
Thanks so much to the more than 7000 listeners who made our Valentine’s Fund Drive a huge success. The station raised more than 570K, far more than even the optimists among us expected. We’re very, very grateful for such strong support: you really DO keep us on the air!
(And for the last time, if you didn't win a trip, don't hold it against me. Heck, I don't draw the winners.)
Comments? Drop me a line.
