Sunday Roundup

Wilmington’s Gareth McGraff has a wrap-up
of the scene Friday in Wake Co. court, where Wilmington Dem Thomas Wright and
his lawyer Doug Harris entered “not guilty” pleas to six felony
charges. Not only is Wright not stepping down,
Harris says, but he'll probably run for re-election this year. (That could get complicated, since Wright's campaign fund was suspended by the State Elections Board after he failed to file his reports.)
The N&O’s Rob Christensen dusts off his crystal ball for his annual slate of predictions. Dems are really, really hoping he’s wrong.
Char-O’s Gary Wright looks back at would-be Sheriff Mackey’s less-than-stellar resume. And Ed Williams explains how the Meck Sheriff race ended up in the hands of local Dems in the first place.
Greensboro’s Mark Binker says Edwards is “down, but not out” - but he may run into trouble in SC, where his “native son” claim doesn’t seem to be working for him as well as it used to.
Got ratings?
Fox's Bill O’Reilly made his own headlines yesterday by roughing up an Obama staffer at a rally in NH. Secret Service agents had to intervene. What a classy guy.
Here’s the AP story on it. The CBS version has reax from both camps. And Slate’s John Dickerson has his own account here.
Waxing poetic
The usual suspects on the Sunday talkers got metaphorical (or maybe just punchy) this morning:
- “Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make the frontrunner.” - Sam Donaldson on Stephanopoulos.
- “Between McCain and Romney here, this race is gonna be nasty enough to gag a buzzard before it’s over with.” - Dan Rather on The Chris Matthews Show.
- “It’s just a flesh wound!” - Chris Matthews compares Clinton and Romney to the Battling Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Not just any boot leather....
Tim Russert outed NBC's David Gregory as a shoe snob on MSNBC Saturday. The camera zoomed in on the smoking gun: Gregory’s gleaming, patent-leather Prada boots. Just the thing for tromping around New Hampshire’s slushy streets, right?
Comments? Drop me a line.
