Dueling Senators
Word today is that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will be in NC this week.
Obama’s campaign staff say they gave out all 2000 or so tickets to Wednesday's Greensboro event within a few hours today. If you wanted to go but missed out, campaign spokesman Dan Leistikow promises more appearances in the near future – but as far as Wednesday goes, Greensboro’s probably it.
Clinton’s campaign folks say she’s headed here Thursday, but there’s no details yet on where or when she’ll appear. They say they’ll have more details Tuesday morning.
I’ll be covering Obama Wednesday, and possibly Hillary Thursday, too, depending on where she goes. Despite my occasional griping, I’m actually kind of looking forward to it.
By the numbers…
The latest poll by the conservative-ish folks at Rasmussen shows presumptive Republican nominee John McCain beating both Dem contenders here in NC. He leads Obama 51-42, and Clinton, 50-34.
That's about par for the course – NC typically votes red at the presidential level. But with a 4.5 MOE, the McCain/Obama numbers get pretty murky, and his lead over Clinton might not be that substantial, either. Questions and toplines are here.
Comeback Kid?
Less than a week after he was expelled from the state House, former Rep. Thomas Wright is asking the courts to put him back in. The AP reports Wright’s defense team filed a lawsuit today to reclaim his seat on the grounds that the legislative sanction violated his civil rights.
Odds? Probably not great, since Wright’s felony fraud trial is set to start March 31st. Then again, Wright attorney Doug Harris said last week he’d ask for a continuance to let the media furor over Wright’s expulsion die down.
Meantime, over at Dome, Ryan Teague Beckwith reports all four lawmakers who voted with Wright against the expulsion have been on the hot seat themselves. And oddly enough, says Greensboro’s Mark Binker, none of the four face serious challengers for their seats this year, either.
Comments? Drop me a line.
