In a statement this afternoon, House Speaker Joe Hackney said lawmakers won't be headed back to Raleigh next week for a special veto session.
"After consultation with Sen. Basnight and with various members of the House of Representatives, we have agreed that the expense and time required for a veto session are not justified in this case. The issues addressed in House Bill 104 are not urgent and we can discuss the concerns of Gov. Perdue during the short session."
Well, that opens up next week's schedule a bit.
By the way, if you're a conservative celebrity-watcher, you might want to check out this weekend's NC Conservative Leadership Conference in Raleigh. The Civitas-sponsored event takes place today and tomorrow. Saturday's lunch keynoter is former Miss California Carrie Prejean. More info here.
