Friday odds and ends

I'll be posting a more serious rundown over the weekend...but it's Friday night, so for now, just the fun stuff.
Finding Flappy
It's not too late to catch Governor Mike Easley's interview on the Charlie Rose show. It re-airs tonight on UNC-TV at 11:30. Easley talks about his children's book and his political future. Charlie Rose talks about whatever crosses his mind, as he usually does. Who could resist a combination like that? (And if you tune in to UNC-TV a little earlier, you'll catch me there tonight, too, on Legislative Week in Review. Don't say you weren't warned. )
Double Take
Isn't it enough to have two-time "Sexiest Man Alive" George Clooney in NC to film a movie? Apparently not. Easley's office announced today that Richard Gere - the only other man to win that title twice, in case you weren't counting - is also headed here to film Nicholas Sparks' novel Nights in Rodanthe. Can the Tarheel State sustain that kind of critical celebrity mass? We'll find out.
Bonus Round
Wilmington Star-News reporter Mark Schreiner sent me a link to a web-based game called "No Comment." The goal is to evade reporters by throwing pies and tabloid grenades. I can see this one becoming a HUGE hit on Jones St. Thanks, Mark!
Vinegar or Tomato?
It's the age-old question - who has the better barbecue, eastern NC or the Piedmont? And every session, legislators line up to duke it out on the chamber floor. This year, it's Lexington's turn - Rep. Jerry Dockham is seeking recognition of its Barbecue Festival as the state's official Food Festival. Eastern BBQ fans fear it's the first step down a slippery, tomato-based slope.
Comments? Drop me a line.
