Fri: Dean drops by, LAT "keeps rockin"

DNC chairman Howard Dean rolled into Raleigh this morning to kick off the NC leg of his "Register for Change" tour. If you missed my story on it today, that's here.
Bonus - I had a phone interview with Dean later. He gets into a few more details about how the party can appeal to more centrist voters while keeping its left-wing base happy. A (very) slightly cleaned-up version is below - it's about 7 minutes long.

Hear it for yourself
If you missed Dean's short speech this morning, don't worry - you can listen below in air-conditioned comfort. It was actually pretty good. (About 17 minutes.)

After his speech, Dean took a few questions from the press in attendance. Highlight: Dean disses GOP Senator Elizabeth Dole and plugs Kay Hagan - that's toward the end. NB - this is not cleaned up at all, but it's maybe worth a listen if you're interested.

In non-Dean news...
Hush, y'all
LA Times blog editor Tony Pierce doesn't want his bloggers going anywhere near the "salacious rumors" about John Edwards' alleged rendevous with Rielle Hunter at the Beverly Hilton Monday night. The best part of the whole memo is Pierce's tagline: "Keep Rockin." Just not the boat, apparently.
Slate's Mickey Kaus has the memo in full, set in the context of an editorial smack-upside-the-head (kindly meant, I'm sure.)
Gawker's Michael Weiss takes a whack at the MSM, too, only in a less kindly fashion, because, hey, it's Gawker. But never fear: Edwards' hometown paper-of-record is, indeed, looking into it. Probably.
Meantime, FoxNews.com says it's confirmed part of the Enquirer story. A Beverly Hilton security guard told the outlet he was the guy who ushered Edwards through a scrum of reporters who'd cornered the former NC senator in the hotel bathroom Monday night.
The rest is, well, still a bit iffy. The Enquirer says it has video, but won't release it, which makes me skeptical. Come on, guys - pics or it didn't happen.
For your entertainment...
Insider guru Scott Mooneyham and I joined Eszter Vajda on Legislative Week in Review this weekend - the last episode of the year, given that the Hons have flown the coop. You can catch it on UNC-TV.
