Breaking News: Operation Sickle Cell

Operation Sickle Cell, the non-profit run by Rep. Mary McAllister, is fighting a subpoena by State Auditor Les Merritt. Fayetteville's John Fuquay reports the Auditor's office issued the subpoena today after attorneys for Operation Sickle Cell refused to hand over records accounting for more than $300,000 in state funding. Fuquay says the auditor is "being assisted" by the State Attorney General's office and local law enforcement.
The N&O's Ryan Teague Beckwith says attorneys for Operation Sickle Cell are due in the Cumberland County courthouse this afternoon to seek a temporary stay on the subpoena. More when I get it.
