Keith Weston (left) and Freddy Jenkins carry on a 32-year WUNC tradition of deep-rooted folk, traditional and new folk music that transcends time.  Celtic, banjo tunes, Appalachian ballads, coffee house folk music: these are all part of the weekly mix on Back Porch Music. Meet the hosts of the program.

Golda from Alamance County was a long-time fan of the program and would call often to say "hello." We remember her with this 2000 interview. She died a few months after this recording was made in her Burlington home:

About BPM

WUNC's home-grown Back Porch Music is the longest continually running locally-produced program on the radio station. Each week, the program presents a wide range of acoustic-based folk music - from contemporary singer/songwriters to old-time musicians of the 20s and 30s, and from classic Celtic to blues - and beyond.  Ticket and CD giveaways are part of the Back Porch mix, too.

Some of the artists you're likely to hear on WUNC's Back Porch Music include: Nickel Creek, Dar Williams, The Red Clay Ramblers, Doc Watson, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Maura O'Connell, DeDannan, Bob Dylan, Elizabeth Cotten, Pete Seeger, Cherish the Ladies, The Shady Grove Band, Jim Watson, June Tabor, Memphis Slim, John Gorka, Stan Rogers, The Carter Family, Tift Merritt, Cousin Emmy, Hank Williams (Sr.), Alison Krauss and Union Station, Jackson Browne, Etta Baker, Kate Rusby, Altan, Sonny Terry, Uncle Dave Macon, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Richard Shindell, Tim & Mollie O'Brien, and thousands of other related artists.

For more than 32 years, WUNC's Back Porch Music has brought the world of folk and acoustic music to listeners in the Triangle and - now - around the world via the Internet. Tune in this weekend!

Disover More Music

November 2, 2007 | NPR · When Nickel Creek began as a bluegrass trio in 1989, its pre-teen members stunned audiences with their remarkable musical gifts. Since then, their sound has evolved into progressive acoustic music, but they're calling it quits. Hear Nickel Creek recorded live in concert in one of the band’s final performances. Concert also features famed fiddler Bruce Molsky.
