Tech leaders and tech start-ups #OnTheRise are in Raleigh this week to show what they’ve got.
Some 80 companies have been selected to display their ideas and jockey for attention from investors at the CED Tech Venture Conference.
Jay Bigelow is CED’s director of entrepreneurship. He says the goal is to connect with corporate partners and venture capitalists
“We have seen waves in this region for many years and I think we are on the up-take of another wave of tech entrepreneurship in this region," said Bigelow.
The Council for Entrepreneurial Development will release a report today showing how the money flowing into these tech companies is also on the rise.
Bigelow says the conference will focus on five specific sectors, including digital health, E-Commerce, and advanced materials and manufacturing.
“A few years ago we started to see a rise in the number of dollars invested in that in this region," said Bigelow. " And if you think about it and go back in history it’s actually a strength of our area. We have a really rich, experienced talent pool, in addition to a relatively low cost of real estate.”
The conference will also feature a Tech Icons panel, including the leaders of SAS, Citrix, Cree and Red Hat.
The CED Tech Venture conference is believed to be the biggest of its kind in the Southeast. It gets underway today at the Raleigh Convention Center. The conference is in partnership with NCTA, North Carolina Technology Association.
