Sound Opinions Show

Apr 16, 2015

ANNOUNCER COPY: Coming up…What happens when you leave a major band to go it alone? And, Jim and Greg review the latest from Modest Mouse.

NEWS:

• Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot remember soul singer Percy Sledge who died this week at age 74. They play “It Tears Me Up” in his honor.

• Jim and Greg discuss Ringo Starr’s entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. He is the last Beatle to be inducted, however they don’t think his solo career warrants such attention.

FEATURE:

Even members of the most successful bands and groups sometimes cannot resist the allure of going out on their own. Paul McCartney launched his solo career 45 years ago this month—the same month as announcing the breakup of The Beatles. Jim and Greg talk about their favorite solo efforts in music history, including Lauryn Hill, Morrissey and Peter Gabriel.

REVIEW:

Jim and Greg review Strangers to Ourselves by Washington state band Modest Mouse. This is the band’s first release in 8 years.
