Small Plane Moved From I-540 Roadway

A small plan landed on I-540 this morning.

Authorities have reopened two lanes of Interstate 540 westbound  in Raleigh after a single-engine airplane made an emergency landing on the shoulder this morning.

The plane was moved to the side of I-540 near Leesville Road.  Authorities say the pilot reported mechanical problems as the plane came down.  There have been no reports of injuries.

Authorities say the pilot reported mechanical problems as the plane came down.  The pilot's correspondence with air traffic controllers indicates that he was not hurt in the incident. 

The pilot's name was not available.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport said on its Twitter account that it had sent emergency crews to help but that airport operations were not affected.
