Slushy Day Ahead

Counties in the Triangle, Triad and Charlotte are under winter weather advisories (purple).

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of central and western North Carolina.  Meteorologist Phil Badgett says snow and sleet could cause slippery road conditions Friday afternoon.

Phil Badgett: "I think the biggest concern is that the cold air is already in place.  We've got temperatures in the teens this morning in many areas and the ground is cold.  Even though we're expecting just light precipitation, a wintry mix especially this afternoon, anything that falls would likely start to accumulate pretty quickly."

Badgett expects a half-inch to an inch of snow and sleet to fall in the Triangle area, starting in the early to mid-afternoon hours.  The DOT says crews put down a layer of brine on main roads Thursday, but drivers should be careful of slick roads Friday evening.  Public school districts in the Triangle and Triad are closing at least two hours early.
