Ryan Adams Live Webcast Today

Ryan Adams

This audio concert was streamed on Friday, July 25, 2014.

Can't be at this year's Newport Folk Festival? We'll bring some of the festival home to you with a live in-concert audio webcast from Ryan Adams.

Adams is from North Carolina. He'll be playing the festival, which is known for stretching the definition of "folk music." Nearly a half century ago on its stage Bob Dylan notoriously plugged in and folk-rocked out.

In partnership with NPR Music, WUNC presents a webcast of Ryan Adams in-concert at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 25. (This link will have streaming audio  during the webcast times.)

Adams kicked-off his musical career  in his hometown of Jacksonville, NC. Later he moved to Raleigh where he co-founded Whiskeytown, a well-known alt-country band. Adams left Whiskeytown and Raleigh in 2000 to established a solo career.

A recent article in Rolling Stone, describes the singer's struggles due to issues with an inner ear disorder:

"I'm not playing music anymore and I'm scared to play live and I feel jaded. All I ever do is disappoint people and I leave the stage," he says, sitting in the lobby of New York's Bowery Hotel in a denim jacket, before describing the condition's effect: "All of a sudden you start seeing double and then my hand starts shaking, and then it's like you're in an elevator and the bottom just drops out and your bones feel 1,000 pounds." >> Read the full article.

Ryan Adams has found treatment for the issue.  His 14th solo studio album is scheduled to be released this September.
