'Bubba The Ram, An Exotic Sheep Who Roamed The Triangle, Is A Ramblin' Man No Longer'

Durham County Sheriff's Office

We've been following the story of Bubba the Ram for months. At the time he came to our attention, he'd been rambling around Durham and RTP, popping up in unexpected places.

Soon the Durham County Sheriff's Office was on the case. “He’s in the neighborhood of 150 pounds and he’s fast,” Deputy Paul Sherwin with the Durham County Sheriff’s Office said at the time. Bubba seemed to always get away from those who wanted to capture him.

Bubba was finally apprehended late last fall after he began to damage area windows and doors in an attempt to head-butt offending reflections of himself.

Bubba was auctioned this morning, January 31, at 10:00 a.m.  A group of animal advocates raised funds to buy him. He will be cared for at Red Dog Farm in Greensboro "until a suitable adopter is found."

Bubba is now believed to be an aoudad, or Barbary sheep, according to the  Mammal Curator at the North Carolina Zoo.

Here's archival footage Bubba arriving at his temporary home after his apprehension. He leaps into view after about 30 seconds:
