Proposed Redistricting Maps Beneficial To Republicans

North Carolina's newly proposed Republican-drawn congressional districts would make it challenging for several Democratic incumbents to keep their seats.

Republicans could pick up as many as four seats in the newly drawn districts, according to the North Carolina-based political analyst, John Davis. The maps would increase the number of Republican voters in the districts of Democratic Representatives Heath Shuler, Larry Kissell and Brad Miller. Davis says it's likely Republicans would pick up those seats under the newly drawn maps. Democrat Mike McIntyre would have trouble keeping his seat. Democrats in the legislature are not happy with the maps, which were drawn by Republican leaders. The Democratic Leader of the Senate, Martin Nesbitt, and the Democratic Minority Leader of the House, Joe Hackney, have asked Republicans to give them the documents they used as a basis for creating the maps.
