WUNC's American Graduate Project is part of a nationwide public media conversation about the dropout crisis. We'll explore the issue through news reports, call-in programs and a forum produced with UNC-TV. Also as a part of this project we've partnered with the Durham Nativity School and YO: Durham to found the WUNC Youth Radio Club. These reports are part of American Graduate-Let’s Make it Happen!- a public media initiative to address the drop out crisis, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and these generous funders: Project Funders:GlaxoSmithKlineThe Goodnight Educational FoundationJoseph M. 'The McNeills Will Miss You. You've Always Been Everybody's Favorite Teacher'

Riverside High School senior Cameron McNeill and math teacher/school paper adviser Steven Unruhe

'The McNeills will miss you, 'cause every time we sit around the dinner table, we always talk about how you're everybody's favorite teacher, even though we're all different people.' - Cameron McNeill

WUNC is in the midst of a yearlong examination of what it's like to be an educator, called the North Carolina Teacher Project. This week, we're returning to the My Teacher series, exploring what it takes to make a connection in the classroom by asking students to interview their teachers.

Cameron McNeill is a senior at Riverside High School in Durham, where Steven Unruhe teaches math and advises students who write for the school paper. Cameron and his three siblings have all taken calculus with Mr. Unruhe and they have all been managing editors for the newspaper in the last 14 years.

Cameron will be the last of the McNeill children to leave Mr. Unruhe's class. He talked with his teacher about what it's like to live up to his siblings' legacies and the end of his family's time at Riverside.

Cameron's conversation with Steven Unruhe is part of WUNC's My Teacher series. It's also a part of American Graduate-Let’s Make it Happen!- a public media initiative to address the drop out crisis, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The My Teacher series is produced and facilitated by WillMichaels.
