Americana darlings Mandolin Orange will release a new record tomorrow called Tides of a Teardrop. It's been a couple of years since Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz released Blindfaller, which earned the duo rave reviews and an expanding audience.
Teardrop has, at its center, the grief and loss that comes from the unexpected death of Andrew's mother when he was just 18. The track "Golden Embers" talks about how people avoid speaking about loss. (Listen for some gorgeous orchestration at the end of the song.)

"Time We Made Time" is a gentle plea for taking the time to talk and listen and it really does draw you in. It's a good message both personally and in the wider world.

The record release party for Tides of a Teardop is in the sold-out Durham Performing Arts Center tomorrow night.
