Kwanzaa Celebration in Cary

Kwanzaa celebration
townofcary.org

Kwanzaa is underway and the Town of Cary will observe the holiday with a celebration Thursday. Kwanzaa is held each year from December 26th through January 1st in honor of African-American culture and heritage. Rob Garner is Cary's Cultural Arts Program Specialist. He says the town's been celebrating Kwanzaa for 17 years.

Rob Garner: "You know, Cary's a diverse community, and we want to support everyone that lives in our community. And I think we want to be able to sort of give people an idea of how other people might celebrate holidays or how they may live in other countries, that sort of thing."
This year's celebration will feature arts and crafts, children's activities, and a live performance by the Chuck Davis African American Dance Ensemble and others. It's free and open to the public. Durham will hold its "Kwanzaafest" on January 1st.
