The 2015 Back Porch Music on the Lawn concert series is underway, and continues to heat up tonight with plenty of banjo pickin' and foot-stompin' from Jim White vs. the Packway Handle Band.

Darren Hanlon opens the evening festivities with amiable acoustic folk rock.

The free concert kicks off at 6 p.m. on the American Tobacco Campus lawn in Durham.

Jim White vs. the Packway Handle Band

The Packway Handle Band strums hard and sings fast. The Athens, GA outfit teamed up with "itinerant rambler" and singer/songwriter Jim White in 2013 when the band asked White to producer its record. Instead, White found himself joining the group to make a collection of upbeat stompers. Their record is Take It Like a Man on Yep Roc Records and even though the group has "versus" in its title, White and the Band blend together a high-energy roundabout of bluegrass.
