Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers' ramblings brought them to Raleigh during the IBMA World of Bluegrass in October. Just as the bluegrass gala was kicking off JMRR joined three other bands at a WUNC event at the Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh.

Voted IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year in 2012, the band made their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2013. Mullins and band have a total of five IBMA awards and are praised by critics for their original bluegrass sound. The bluegrass and gospel quintet also get some airplay on their leader's radio stations. Mullins owns three stations in Ohio that feature classic country, bluegrass and gospel music.

Their Raleigh set kicked off with "Blue Collar Blues" one of the "story songs" from their latest album, "Another Day From Life." The set was also broadcast a few weeks later as part of WUNC's Back Porch Music.

Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, and  The Spinney Brothers also performed at the WUNC event on October 1, 2014. All four artists' concerts were later featured on WUNC's Back Porch Music.

Additionally, on the same evening, WUNC produced a special live broadcast with Washington, D.C.-based WAMU's Bluegrass Country.

The IBMA selected Raleigh as its home in 2013 and will remain in the capital city through 2018. The event includes dozens of venues and hundreds of concerts across the area, including Wide Open Bluegrass, in addition to a business conference and trade show hosted at the Raleigh Convention Center.
