Friday night WUNC, Yep Roc Records, and American Tobacco present the next Back Porch Music Center Stage Concert at Diamond View Park in Durham. The free event starts at 6 p.m. and runs for three hours with music from The Aoife O'Donovan Band and Dave Alvin with the Guilty Ones. Both performers record for Yep Roc Records based in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
At the Diamond View Park you'll find food trucks, kids's events including a special Kid's Zone, a zip line and cornholes. Freddy Jenkins from Back Porch Music and Eric Hodge from Last Motel will M.C. the show.
Dave Alvin might be best known for his work in the 80s with seminal Los Angles bands X and The Blasters. In recent years he's explored new approaches to traditional tunes while writing new Americana tunes. Rolling Stone magazine called him an "unrecognized guitar hero." His most recent release Eleven Eleven from Yep Roc features a return to roots rock.
This summer has been a busy one for Aoife O'Donovan. She toured with Garrison Keilor on the "A Prairie Home Companion Radio Romance Tour," released her third solo CD (called Fossils), and was part of the The Goat Rodeo Sessions Tour (with Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan). She's a founding member of Crooked Still.
Both artists appear frequently on Last Motel and Back Porch Music. Chairs, blankets and picnics are welcome at Diamond View Park, but no alcohol or glass, please. Here's more information about the series and directions to the Park.
