Rose Hoban

After a decade of interviewing patients while she practiced nursing, Rose Hoban put down her stethoscope, picked up a microphone and enrolled in UC Berkeley's journalism school where she concentrated in radio. While at Berkeley, she also earned a Masters in public health policy. A New York native, Rose worked for several years on an island in Micronesia where she managed the infirmary at a rural school. She's also worked in Thailand with refugees and ethnic minorities and in Indonesia managing a health project for survivors of an ethnic conflict with Medecins Sans Frontieres/ Doctors Without Borders. She's worked in an inner-city emergency room, as a home hospice and community health nurse and as the director of health services at a small trades college. Before coming to WUNC, Rose aired stories on Living on Earth, the California Report and KQED FM news. She's also published in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Contra Costa Times and the Anchorage Daily News. Rose reads obsessively and enjoys cooking Asian dishes with ingredients that confound her guests.Reports and features by Rose Hoban
