"I plan on passing on my appreciation (of WUNC) to my kids, if I can ever get a word in edgewise over Curious George."
In today's hyper-connected society there is no shortage of information -- radio, television, internet, blogs, newspapers, magazines. But I believe too many of those mediums have at best a subjective viewpoint and at worst partisan viewpoint. WUNC and NPR elevate the public discourse to an intelligent, objective level using informed commentary and unbiased news.
I listen to WUNC every day to stay informed on what is happening in the world -- locally, nationally, and globally. The station is on my alarm clock, on in my kitchen, on in my workshop, and (if I can overrule my 2 two year-olds) on in my car.
I believe in the service that NPR and WUNC provide. I plan to pass on my appreciation to my kids, if I can ever get a word in edgewise over Curious George.

"I moved to North Carolina from Brazil (and North Carolina Public Radio was) my very first American friend."
I moved to North Carolina from Brazil in December 2004. I had married an American citizen and we were about to start our journey together after previous failed marriages for both of us. The house needed to be painted on the inside, and even though I had never painted anything in my entire life, I took the job after my father-in-law taught me the basics in his garage during a visit to his house in Olive Branch, MS. So, that was what I did in the summer of 2005. And as I covered those walls to erase their history and start writing my own, NPR was my source for companionship, laughter, tears and inspiration to tackle the job that was so overwhelming at first. The stories I listened to helped me improve my English listening skills and gave me comfort when the process of adapting to life in this country seemed so far fetched and far off. Today when I drive to work, NPR is what I turn to. My very first American friend. I thank everyone who works for NPR. You have been responsible for helping me embrace the American culture with all my heart.
