Howard has been in prison for 19 years for the 1995 murder of Doris Washington and her daughter, Nishonda.</p><p>Judge Orlando Hudson cited new evidence and misconduct by former Durham prosecutor Mike Nifong. Nifong failed to provide Howard's attorney with a memo from a tipster who said members of a New York drug gang raped and killed Washington and her daughter. The former leader of the Latin Kings gang in Greensboro was convicted last November on federal racketeering charges. Cornell was convicted of engaging in a conspiracy to commit murder, arson and robbery. Hickory Man With Pending Innocence Review Released On Parole http://wunc.org/post/hickory-man-pending-innocence-review-released-parole <p>A Hickory man has been released from prison as he continues seeking to prove his innocence in a 1987 rape case.<br><br><strong>Gurnal Scott: </strong>Willie James Grimes served more then two decades in prison for rape and kidnapping. He walked out of prison this morning on parole..but his conviction still follows him. He had to register with the state as a sex offender. The North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission ruled last month that a review of Grimes' case is warranted.
