Several hundred students sat in bleachers and watched the staged horror of a car accident in the school parking lot. The program, called “message 2 die 4” was an effort between the school, local law enforcement and some Greensboro businesses. Educating Young Drivers State Highway Patrol Cracks Down On Texting http://wunc.org/post/state-highway-patrol-cracks-down-texting <p>Law enforcement officials say their efforts to crack down on people who text on their cell phones while driving is resulting in some success. Jessica Jones reports.<br><br>A state law banning texting while driving went into effect about a year and a half ago. Since then, the State Highway Patrol has issued about 11 hundred tickets to people who've been texting on the road. Sergeant Jeff Gordon is a spokesman for the department. Verizon subscribers in distress in Durham can now send an text message to 9-1-1. The six month trial is a joint venture between the wireless company and the county. The capability was installed at no charge to taxpayers.
