On The Road Today? Remember *47 (And Three More Tips For Drivers)

Crews have been out all night, plowing and salting roads in the areas affected by last night's snowstorm. Roads and bridges are open, but many secondary roads still have snow and ice. The NC Department of Transportation reports that high winds on N.C. 12 in Dare County have blown sand on the road through the night. The road is open, but may be down to one lane in some places.

Most of us know the tips for driving on snow and ice: drive cautiously, leave extra room between you and the car in front of you. Here are some tips you may not know:

Snow Day: Authorities Mobilize As The State Shuts Down

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is all hands on deck this morning.

More than four hundred trucks have been in action over the last 48 hours pre-treating and clearing roadways of snow from the mountains to the Outer Banks.

The western piedmont got about an inch of snow, and some areas of the Triangle near I-95 have seen 5 inches. Snow accumulations in Easter North Carolina could exceed six inches.

Most schools across the region are closed today.
