North Carolina Public Radio, WUNC-FM, www.wunc.org, the public radio station licensed to the University of North Carolina, seeks a Corporate Support Associate. This position serves as an entry level development associate for corporate support activities for a CPB-qualified, NPR-member public radio station, and reports to the Corporate Support Manager. Duties include: Soliciting contributions from local businesses and organizations, handling trade accounts, preparing presentations and creating client on-air announcements. Bachelor's Degree required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Candidate should be experienced in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint computer software programs with the ability to learn software programs such as Tapscan, Qualitap, CBSI and ACT and have a basic knowledge of media. Benefits include paid employee health insurance, life insurance options, and five weeks paid vacation annually in addition to sick leave earnings and eleven paid holidays per year. WUNC Radio is accepting applications for internships. The station is interested in aspiring radio journalists and students who are familiar with public radio and would like to give it a try. The station offers three internships:
News Intern: Works with the WUNC News staff on newscasts covering North Carolina. Write broadcast copy; gather and edit newscast tape; attend and cover press conferences and other news events; conduct research for news stories and series; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Durham office at the American Tobacco Historic District (opposite the Durham Bulls Athletic Park).
"The State of Things" Intern: Works with the staff of "The State of Things," a noon-time show covering North Carolina people and issues. Search for ideas for segments, shows and series; conduct research for segments, shows and series; book guest; write scripts; gather vox tape; find and prepare clips for broadcast; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Durham office at the American Tobacco Historic District (opposite the Durham Bulls Athletic Park).
"The Story" Intern: Works with the staff of "The Story with Dick Gordon," a national show produced at WUNC. Conduct research; edit audio; find and book guests; conduct phone pre-interviews; schedule studio time; find archival tape; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Chapel Hill office near the Friday Center.
These opportunities are open to graduate and undergraduate students. Internships are available throughout the year and generally last for one semester, beginning in January, May and September. The internships are unpaid.
