Broadcast Producer for National Programming -- WUNC FM North Carolina Public Radio -- WUNC FM 91.5, www.wunc.org and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are looking for a Broadcast Producer for the national program, “The Story, With Dick Gordon.” The Broadcast Producer reports to the Senior Broadcast Producer for National Programming and will work with the Managing Editor/Director, the host, fill-in hosts and others to develop story ideas and schedule interviews for these informative shows that feature interviews, news, arts and culture five days a week. Position will involve extensive research into current issues in cultural trends, politics, health care, public policy, economics and other areas for the enrichment of the national public radio audience and listeners. Helps select music for the program and mix pieces to include daily billboards and promos. Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. Two years of production and programming experience are required. However, WUNC will consider applicants with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have excellent journalistic research and writing skills. Applicants should know how to research, report and tell a story, and be able to write in and out of actualities and other sound. Strongly prefer experience mixing and editing sound in digital formats with thorough knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment, including operating boards, phone screening systems and portable recording devices. Financial Systems Manager (FSM)
WUNC Radio is recruiting for a Financial Systems Manager (FSM) to establish and maintain systems and procedures for secure, compliant, and accurate gift processing, with integration of data into WUNC’s accounts receivable and donor management database, Enterprise, an OLTP SQL Server database by supported by Access, Int. WUNC is an NPR (National Public Radio) member station serving over 250,000 listeners, with over 22,000 annual contributors. The FSM's duties consist of day to day management of multiple revenue streams (mostly electronic) including direct mail, lockbox, on-air fundraising, credit card payments, web and Carolina Fund. The position writes Access database applications, macros, SQL Server transactional DDL/DML and Crystal Reports. This position serves as the Database Administrator for Enterprise and Researcher’s Edge databases. The FSM oversees and executes all extraction, translation, loading, and data quality procedures. The position must ensure gift processing methods adhere to UNC/State business requirements including proper internal control, credit card security standards compliance and donor receipts. The Financial Systems Manager works closely with WUNC’s Business Office, IT & Fundraising Departments. Working knowledge of accounting and financial systems is key. Strong customer service skills highly desirable, as well as fundraising concepts. Additional duties include project management of new traffic software. Public radio listener also helpful.

WUNC Radio is accepting applications for internships. The station is interested in aspiring radio journalists and students who are familiar with public radio and would like to give it a try. The station offers three internships:
News Intern: Works with the WUNC News staff on newscasts covering North Carolina. Write broadcast copy; gather and edit newscast tape; attend and cover press conferences and other news events; conduct research for news stories and series; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Durham office at the American Tobacco Historic District (opposite the Durham Bulls Athletic Park).
"The State of Things" Intern: Works with the staff of "The State of Things," a noon-time show covering North Carolina people and issues. Search for ideas for segments, shows and series; conduct research for segments, shows and series; book guest; write scripts; gather vox tape; find and prepare clips for broadcast; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Durham office at the American Tobacco Historic District (opposite the Durham Bulls Athletic Park).
"The Story" Intern: Works with the staff of "The Story with Dick Gordon," a national show produced at WUNC. Conduct research; edit audio; find and book guests; conduct phone pre-interviews; schedule studio time; find archival tape; perform other administrative tasks. Requires good writing, technical and computer skills. Works out of our Chapel Hill office near the Friday Center.
These opportunities are open to graduate and undergraduate students. Internships are available throughout the year and generally last for one semester, beginning in January, May and September. The internships are unpaid.
